Boys Golf: Minot High wins 3-team tiebreaker for Bismarck Invitational title
Nathan Peterson didn’t win medalist honors as the individual champion, but he won the Minot High boys golf team the three-team tiebreaker over both Mandan and Williston on Tuesday, April 21, in the Bismarck Invitational at Riverwood Golf Course.
Minot High, Mandan and Williston all finished with teams scores of 315, forcing a tiebreaker to determine the winner. It came down to the lowest score among each team’s fifth-place scorer. That belonged to Peterson, who shot an 82. Mandan’s fifth-best score was an 84 from Brogan Lobeck and Williston’s was an 85 from both Noah Anderson and Kaelan Colburn.
Bismarck Century finished with a team score of 319 and Minot North carded a 323 to round out the top five. Thirteen teams took part in the competition.
The tournament was also the first individual qualifier of the season. Any golfer who finished with a score of 81 or lower qualified for the state tournament. Among those were Easton Bradley, Tripp Toepfer and Parker Argent for the Magicians. Bradley paced Minot High with a 4-over 76 to finish fifth overall. He eagled the par-5 sixth and had a birdie on No. 15.
Toepfer qualified with a 77 to finish right behind Bradley in sixth. He finished with a birdie on the par-five ninth. Argent secured his spot in the state tournament with an 80.
Kyler Weishaar was the lone qualifier for the Sentinels, shooting a 75 to finish third. He finished with three birdies.
In total, 18 golfers qualified for the state tournament in their first attempt.
Bismarck Century’s Bryson Fischer won medalist honors over Williston’s Mason Bolstad in a playoff. Both shot 2-over 72. Fischer had an eagle and a birdie, while Bolstad finished with five birdies.
The Magicians and Sentinels are back on the tee for the Jamestown Invitational at Jamestown Country Club on Monday, April 27, at 10 a.m.
