Boys Golf: Magicians win second straight tournament title

Two tournaments, two wins for the Minot High boys golf team thus far this season.

The Magicians shot a collective 294 to win the Mandan Invite by three strokes over Bismarck St. Mary’s on Tuesday, April 14, at Prairie West Golf Course. Both Easton Bradley and Connor Ressler carded 73s to finish tied for third in the individual competition.

All four Minot High scorers placed in the top 10, as Parker Argent and Tripp Toepfer tied for sixth, each shooting a 74. Freshman Paxton Wallner also shot a 74 as the team’s 8th-seeded player.

Mandan finished third with a team score of 303. Dickinson (310) and Bismarck Century (312) rounded out the top five. Minot North took eighth in the 12-team field with a score of 324. Kaden Carlson led the Sentinels with a 79.

Bradley’s round consisted of four birdies, three bogies, a double-bogey and 10 pars, while Ressler opened his round with birdies on the first two holes en route to three on the day along with four bogeys and 11 pars.

Argent had an adventurous front nine, carding three birdies, three bogeys, two double-bogeys and two pars before a much more sedated back nine of seven pars, one birdie and one bogey. Toepfer began his round on the back nine, shooting even par with one birdie and one bogey. He finished the front nine at 2-over par with a birdie and three bogeys.

Dickinson’s Gabe Bast took home medalist honors with a 1-under 71, one stroke clear of Mandan’s Tyg Zenker. Bast carded five birdies, two bogeys, a double-bogey and 10 pars.

Minot High and Minot North compete in the Bismarck High Invite at Riverwood Golf Course on Tuesday, April 21, at 10 a.m. The Jamestown Invite – originally scheduled for Friday, April 17 – was rescheduled to Monday, April 27.
