Boys Golf: Magicians, Sentinels finish 1-2 at Jamestown Invite

It was a banner day for Minot Public Schools in Jamestown, as the Minot High and Minot North boys golf teams took the top two spots at the Jamestown Invite on Tuesday, April 28, at Jamestown Country Club.

The Magicians won their fourth straight tournament to begin the season, shooting a team score of 306. Minot North finished three strokes behind them for second place – its best finish so far this year. The two Minot schools combined to place four golfers in the top 10 in the individual competition, led by Minot High’s Nathan Peterson, who shot a 73 to take fourth.

Williston placed third with a 311, followed by Dickinson (312) and Bismarck Century (313) to round out the top five. Tournament-host Jamestown finished eighth in the 12-team event with a 329.

Minot High’s top-four scores came from players seeded 4-7. Parker Wallner was the Magicians’ No. 7 seed and finished eighth overall with a 76. Because he was seeded outside of the top six, his score did not contribute to the team’s overall total. He registered three birdies on his round.

Peterson was Minot High’s top golfer for the day, finishing just two shots back of Century’s Fynn Sagsveen, who carded a 1-under 71 to earn medalist honors. Mandan’s Tyg Zenker and Williston’s Noah Anderson both shot even par to tie for second. Peterson closed out his round with one of his two birdies on the day.

Also cracking the top 10 for the Magicians was Connor Ressler. The junior shot a 75 to place seventh. Ressler birdied two of his final three holes.

Paxton Wallner (78) and Parker Argent (80) also factored into Minot High’s team score.

Kyler Weishaar led the Sentinels with a 2-over 74 to finish fifth overall. The Minot North senior birdied two holes on the back nine. Both Walter Langhans and Kaden Carlson finished just outside the top 10, placing 12th with 78s.

Teegan Dangel carded a 79 to round out Minot North’s team score.

The two teams host the Minot Invite at Souris Valley Golf Course on Friday, May 1, at 10 a.m.

Starting at $2.99/week.
