Boys Golf: Magicians open season with tournament title; Argent wins medalist honors
The Minot High boys golf team accomplished something in the first week of the season that it wasn’t able to do all of last season: win a tournament.
The Magicians shot a team score of 306 and captured the Century-Legacy Invite title at Tom O’Leary Golf Course on Saturday, April 11, in the first tournament of the season. Last season, Minot High finished runners-up once and placed third three times, but didn’t have a tournament victory.
The Magicians finished three shots in front of Bismarck St. Mary’s. Mandan took third with a score of 315. Williston (322) and Bismarck Century (323) rounded out the top five. Minot North finished in seventh with a score of 328. Twelve teams competed in the event.
Minot High also had the best individual score with sophomore Parker Argent shooting a 2-over 71 to earn medalist honors. Argent finished a stroke ahead of both St. Mary’s Brody Horner and Mandan’s Jacob Walch. Junior Connor Ressler gave the Magicians two top-10 finishers, shooting a 77 to tie for eighth. Junior Easton Bradley and sophomore Tripp Toepfer both carded 79s to factor into the overall team score.
Argent’s round consisted of an eagle on the par-4 12th and a birdie on the par-4 10th. He had three bogeys, a double-bogey and 12 pars. He parred the final four holes to capture medalist honors.
Kyler Weishaar and Kaden Carlson both finished tied for 13th with 79s to lead the Sentinels, who were competing in their first tournament as defending state champions.
Minot High and Minot North compete in the Mandan Invite at Prairie West Golf Course on Tuesday, April 14, at 10 a.m.
