The Minot State Beavers entered their Wednesday afternoon games against the Norther State Wolves off of a hot streak. After sweeping the St. Cloud State University Huskies in their weekend/weekday series on the road, the Beavers found themselves back home at Corbett Field for another day of NSIC action.

And through the first of the pair of games on Apr. 22, the Beavers carried over their previous success.

The Wolves kicked the afternoon off with a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. In their third at bat, the Wolves secured an RBI single into left field. The Wolves got another leg up on the Beavers in the top of the third inning, scoring the second run of the day when another Northern State runner scored home on a sacrifice fly to center field.

In the bottom of the third, Minot State quickly found even footing as junior Vinnie Gates launched a two-run home run over the fence to tie the game at 2-2. The third inning ended before the Beavers could earn the lead, but in the very next inning, senior Mike Williamson hammered a home run of his own, giving Minot State their first lead of the day.

The Beavers allowed just one more run for the Wolves in the top of the sixth inning when one of their own hit a home run.

Tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth with two outs, Gates closed out the game with a walk off RBI single into left field, bringing senior Jessen West home for the winning run.

The first game of the day ended with the Beavers up 4-3 in the eighth inning, extending their win streak to five.

Unfortunately for the Beavers, their streak soon came to an end.

Minot State dropped their second game of the day 14-10 to the Wolves.

The Wolves took a decisive 9-1 lead by the bottom of the second inning, and the Beavers had a hard time catching up.

The Beavers took more ground in the bottom of the fifth inning with five runs, the Wolves had already widened their lead by an additional four. Though the Beavers ended Wednesday evening with one of their best offensive efforts of the season at 10 runs, the Wolves out scored them, ending with their loss at 10-14.

With their win and loss on Wednesday, the Beavers improved to a record of 18-22 and will back on the road to face Bemidji State University on Saturday, Apr. 25.
