The Minot State softball team swept the University of Mary Marauders in their home first of three NSIC double headers this week late Tuesday afternoon, Apr. 7.

The Beavers have been on a strong offensive streak, going 3-1 in their last four matches, still netting three runs in their only loss. The Beavers kept up their hot streak in the first game of their double header against the Marauders.

Neither team scored through the first two innings of play with no more than six batters making plate appearances in any half-inning. In the bottom of the third inning, the Beavers’ offense kicked into gear. Minot State sophomore Sarah Misner got the ball rolling for the Beavers with a double down the left field line to drive in two runners.

Misner advanced to third on the next at bat and ran home for the third run of the inning when sophomore Isabelle Anderson flied out to right field.

Senior Raivyn Millions drove in the last run of the inning with a double into center field, allowing the runner on third to reach home.

The Beavers continued to stonewall the Marauders, going three up and three down in the top of the fourth and still seeing no runs in the top of the fifth.

Minot State widened their lead just a bit in the bottom of the fifth inning when senior Anna LaCount hit a single up the middle of the field, allowing the runner on first to make her way all the way around the bases.

The Marauders stayed scoreless for the rest of the game, but the Beavers capped off the first game of the afternoon with a two run home run from junior Maizy Whitlow.

The Beavers ended the first game of the day with a decisive 7-0 victory.

The second game of the double header was just as dominant for the Beavers.

The Beavers kicked off the second game with five unanswered runs in the bottom of the first inning and a single additional run in the bottom of the second.

The Marauders scored their first points of the day in the top of the third inning, but the Beavers kept them from putting any more runs on the board.

The Beavers scored a final four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to force a run rule, ending the game with a Beavers victory at 10-2.

The Beavers have just three days before they return to the field to take on the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons on Saturday, Apr. 11, in another NSIC double header.

Starting at $2.99/week.
