The Minot State Beavers baseball team is back to a positive record on the season after their sweep in their double header against the University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles on Wednesday, Apr. 29.
The Beavers came into their bout against the Golden Eagles hot off the heels of a four game sweep of Bemidji State, and they kept their offensive momentum going strong to kick off the first game of the afternoon.
The Beavers got to work fast in the batter’s box, with redshirt junior Colton Bagshaw scoring the first run of the game, making his way home on a wild pitch. Not long after, sophomore Wyatt Toth hit an RBI sacrifice fly to bring in the second run of the inning.
The Beavers allowed just one run in the bottom of the first inning.
The Beavers scored an additional four runs through the game while only allowing the Golden Eagles three, finishing the game after the bottom of the seventh inning with the Beavers victorious at 6-4 for the fifth game in a row.
Minot State kept their momentum straight through to the second game of day.
Though the Golden Eagles got an early 0-3 lead over the Beavers in the bottom of the first, Minot found their footing fast, tying the game at 3-3 in the top of the third.
The Beavers took their first lead of the game in the top of the fourth, securing four runs to bring them to 7-3, and widened their lead by an additional run in the top of the fifth.
The Golden Eagles secured just two additional runs in the sixth and seventh innings while the Beavers grew their lead to eight runs, culminating in another four run inning to cap off the game in the top of the ninth.
With their 13-5 win over the Golden Eagles in the second game of the double header, the Beavers successfully kept their win streak, extending it to six, and improved to a positive record for the season at 24 wins and 22 losses.
The Beavers will have to fight to keep their positive record as they head back home for their last series of the regular season, taking on the University of Sioux Falls at Corbett Field beginning on Friday, May 1.
