North Star over Lions, Chargers over Mustangs in consolation semis

The Bishop Ryan Lions were taken down by North Star High School in their consolation semifinals match of the 2026 NDHSAA Division B Boys Basketball State Tournament on Friday evening Mar. 20.
North Star took an early lead and stayed consistent through the first two quarters of consolation play. The Lions were less consistent at the basket through he first quarter, scoring just eight points on their three of twelve completed field goals as compared to North Star’s 15 points on seven out of 17.
The Lions stayed behind North Star through the rest of the match, ending their consolation semifinal with a 57-40 loss for Bishop Ryan.
The Lions will compete in the tournament seventh place match beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 21.
The eighth-seeded Nelson County Chargers upset the fourth-seeded Midway/Minto Mustangs in their consolation semifinals match with a victory of 69-52.
The Chargers led over the Mustangs at the end of every quarter, including doubling the Mustangs’ scoring points in the second quarter. The Mustangs outscored the Chargers for the first time in the fourth quarter 21-18, but the Chargers had a wide enough lead that the Mustangs could not catch up.
The Chargers advanced to the state fifth place game where they will take on North Star High School beginning at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 21. The Mustangs will face off against the Bishop Ryan Lions for seventh place.
