The Our Redeemer’s boys basketball team went undefeated during the regular season against district foes and followed suit in the District 6 tournament en route to capturing the title for the second year in row.

Wyatt Weekley poured in a game-high 25 points and Nolan Schmidt added 13 to help guide the Knights to a 61-43 victory over crosstown rival Bishop Ryan in the District 6 Tournament championship game on Tuesday, March 3, at the Minot Municipal Auditorium. The title is Our Redeemer’s fifth in seven appearances.

“It’s a great way to keep pushing on to the region tournament,” Weekley said. “We’re done with this, but now we need to look on to the region tournament and focus up in these next couple games.”

The Knights (21-1) will be the No. 1 seed from District 6 and will play Trenton – the No. 4 seed from District 5 – in the Region 3 Tournament quarterfinal on Monday, March 9, at the 4 Bears Event Center in New Town. The Lions (17-5) will play Alexander in the quarterfinals.

Our Redeemer’s and Bishop Ryan are no strangers to one another come postseason time. The two programs have met up in the district tournament every year since 2021. They met in the championship in 2021, 2025 and this season and met in the semifinals in 2022, 2023 and 2024. The teams have split those six meetings, with the Knights getting the better of the Lions the last two years in the title game. Last year, Our Redeemer’s defeated Bishop Ryan in double overtime to win the title.

“We know these guys so well,” Weekley said. “I love playing against them. It’s great competition in this district and brings the best out of us.”

Overtime wasn’t needed this time around, but it was much closer than their regular season meeting on Jan. 3 – a 67-44 victory for the Knights. Our Redeemer’s led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter and took a 34-22 lead into the break. The Knights maintained a 12-point lead after three, holding onto a 48-36 advantage before pulling away late in the fourth.

The Lions were making their sixth straight appearance in the district title game, winning three. They were making their 18th appearance since 1999 and were seeking their 10th title.

Hayden Seay led Bishop Ryan with 16 points. Jack Passa also finished in double figures for the Lions with 10 points.

In the other two Region 3 Tournament quarterfinal games, Velva is the No. 3 seed in District 6 and will play Powers Lake-Burke Central, while TGU draws District 5 champion Ray.
