Beavers golf open NSIC preview with room to catch up

Monday, Mar. 23, saw the beginning of the end of the 2025-2026 season for Minot State’s men’s golf team.
The Beavers traveled to Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, MO for the first day of the NSIC Men’s Conference Preview. The Beavers got their start with the spring season just a few weeks earlier in Maverick Desert Classic on Monday and Tuesday, Mar. 9-10, taking 11th place a team total of 40-over 616 (303-313) at the Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, AZ.
This week’s NSIC Preview is the last great test run for the Beavers to see how they will fair in the NSIC National Tournament beginning on Friday, Apr. 17.
At the end of the first round of pay, The Beavers find themselves ranked 13th place out of the 15 attending schools with a total score of 24 over par, just behind Bemidji State with their overall score of 22 over par.
The Beavers were led by junior Gunther Soltvedt and senior Zach Hendrickson on Monday. Both Soltvedt and Hendrickson scored just two over the par of 74 to help the Beavers place.
Soltvedt had a rougher front nine, he started the round on the 16th hole with a birdie, but earned a double bogie on the next hole. He then followed up with another three bogies to put himself four over par heading into his back nine.
On his back nine, Soltvedt caught back up, sinking four more birdies and just two bogies to bring himself back down to a two over par for the day.
Hendrickson had a much more consistent first round. He earned himself just one eagle and two bogies in his first nine hole, repeating them same number of birdies and bogies in his back nine to also end with two over par.
Soltvedt and Hendrickson tied with six other players for 14th lace individually, with freshman Kasen Rostad the next Beaver in the individual leader board tied for 70th with five other players with his first round score of eight over par.
Soltvedt and Hendrickson will both begin their second and final round of the NSIC Men’s Conference at 9 a.m. on the 13th hole on Tuesday, Mar. 24.
