Women’s Hockey: Beavers post second shutout of Gophers in sweep

The Minot State women’s ice hockey team kept the University of Minnesota off the scoreboard for the entire 120 minutes the two teams were on the ice this weekend, culminating with a 4-0 victory on Saturday, Feb. 14, at Maysa Arena to close out the regular season.

The Beavers (15-5-7) outshot the Gophers 78-9 en route to their ninth shutout of the season.

Journey Miller opened the scoring at 15:54 of the first period and added her second at 7:20 of the second period. Miller has a team-high 14 goals on the season

Paige Kozak gave the Beavers a 3-0 advantage halfway through the second period, in which they peppered Minnesota goaltender Nicole James with 30 shots. Payton Lang rounded out the scoring at 14:59 of the third period.

Jillian Ackerman stopped all nine shots to earn her seventh shutout of the season. James finished with 74 saves.

The Beavers head to Fremont, Neb., for the Women’s Midwest College Hockey conference tournament, beginning with the quarterfinal round on Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Midland Civic Center.
