Women’s Basketball: Beavers fall to Winona State on the road
The Minot State women’s basketball team rallied to get to within four-points of the lead in the third quarter, but faded down the stretch in a 74-64 loss to Winona State on Saturday, Jan. 31, at McCown Gymnasium.
The Beavers (9-14 overall, 6-10 NSIC) trailed 40-31 at half and the Warriors never surrendered the lead in the second half.
Taryn Hamling led the Beavers with 18 points. Jessica Mogen and Tiyahna Trottier also finished in double figures with 12 and 11, respectively. Minot State shot 38.5 percent from the field and 24 percent from 3.
Hailey Markworth netted 27 points for the Warriors to lead all scorers. Megan Schuman added 19.
The Beavers experienced a winless record for the first time since Jan. 9-10 after falling to Concordia-St. Paul, 75-54, on Friday, Jan. 30. Minot State trailed by just a point after the first quarter, but was outscored by 20 the rest of the way.
Hamling scored a team-high 17 points and grabbed five steals.
Lydia Haack netted 24 points for the Golden Bears.
Minot State turned the ball over 20 times, leading to 26 points for C-SP. The Golden Bears held a 40-20 advantage in points in the paint and a 16-1 edge in second-chance points.
The Beavers host Bemidji State on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 5:30 p.m. at the MSU Dome.
