The North Dakota State University Bison men’s basketball team added notch in the program’s belt on Friday, Feb. 27, as former player and Devils Lake native Grant Nelson signed a 10-day contract with the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets.
Nelson made history for the Bison as their first ever former player to earn a spot on an active NBA roster during the season. Nelson played as a part of NDSU’s men’s basketball program for three seasons from 2020 to 2023. In his 2023 playing for the Bison, Nelson led the team in points, rebounds and assists.
Nelson was named North Dakota’s Mr. Basketball in 2020 and finished out his collegiate career at the University of Alabama.
Nelson is just one step closer to making history for NDSU again if he becomes the first ex-Bison to play in an NBA game.
