Minot State set for home-and-home rivalry series with Mary
The Minot State men’s hockey team is back on the ice Tuesday night, ready to battle in-state rival the University of Mary.
The No. 1 Beavers (20-1-1-1 overall, 10-1-1-1 MCH) host the 11th-ranked Marauders (22-10-0, 6-5-0) at the Maysa Arena on Tuesday at 7 p.m., the first of a home-and-home series between the teams, who play again in Bismarck on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The two teams have met three times already this season, with the home team prevailing each time. That is particularly relevant as the Marauders are the only team to beat the Beavers in regulation.
That lone setback was a 2-1 Mary win back on November 8 in Bismarck.
As for the games in Minot, the Beavers scored a 5-2 victory at the Maysa Arena in October, and a 4-0 win at the All Seasons Arena on January 9.
William Dyke made 27 saves in the shutout win in January for the Beavers, while captain Jay Buchholz has led the way in all three previous meetings, scoring a goal in each game. Matthew Yakubowski has also netted a goal in both Minot State wins.
As for the Marauders, Isaac Flatey scored their lone goal in Minot, while David Loahr and Amraj Gill each scored in Mary’s home win.
Goalie Caleb Cross made 38 saves in the Marauders’ November victory.
Loahr has been one of Mary’s team leaders offensively, as he has 13 goals and 15 assists. Alex Senf and Dain Sardelli each have 18 goals for the Marauders, and Joe Gronholz has 13.
Colby Joseph leads the way for the Beavers with 16 goals and 12 assists, while Joey Moffatt had 11 goals and 12 assists, and Buchholz has 11 goals and 10 assists.
In goal, Dyke leads Minot State with 14 wins, a 1.58 goals against average, and 3 shutouts this season, while Cross leads Mary with 16 wins, a 2.21 GAA, and 2 shutouts.
