Girls Wrestling: Three Minot United wrestlers advance to championship match
The Minot United girls wrestling team will have three wrestlers battling for state individual titles after Brooklyn Ost, Madisyn Racine and Maycee Boyce all advanced to their respective championship matches on the opening day of the NDHSAA State Individual Tournament at the Fargodome on Thursday, Feb. 19.
In the 100-pound division, Ost opened the tournament with a pin of Fargo’s Willow Hagen in 2 minutes, 49 seconds, and secured another pin in her second round match against MayPort-C-G’s Evie Satrom in 1:46. She advanced to the title match by upsetting top seed Cora Sorenson of Watford City with a 10-1 major decision. Ost will compete against Williston’s Maci Brouillette.
Racine was the No. 1 seed in the 124-pound division and pinned Grand Forks’ Maddie Look in 1:29 to open her day. She scored a 17-0 technical fall in 5:41 over MP-C-G’s Kaylee Mueller in the quarterfinals and advanced to the championship with a 9-4 decision against New Salem-Almont’s Keisha Tomac. Racine will wrestle South Border’s Ava Litsey for the state title.
Boyce was the third Minot United wrestler to advance to the title match. Wrestling at 148, Boyce started with a pin of Napoleon-G-S’ Adisyn Zubke in 2:27 before scoring an 11-3 major decision over Bismarck’s Madison Reems. She took down the top seed in the semifinals, winning a 4-2 decision against Carrington’s Khendra Garcia. Boyce will wrestle West Fargo’s Brynlee Hartsoch in the championship.
The championship matches will take place on Friday, Feb. 20, at the Fargodome beginning at 5 p.m.
