Boys Wrestling: Minot United wins WDA duals over Turtle Mountain, Jamestown

The Minot United boys wrestling team doubled its win total in WDA duals in a matter of hours with a pair of convincing victories over Jamestown and Turtle Mountain on Saturday, Jan. 31. Minot United started the day with a 71-5 victory over the Blue Jays and ended it with a 48-25 win against the Braves.

Both matches were makeups from previous matches that were postponed earlier in the season due to inclement weather.

Minot United (3-4 overall, 3-2 WDA) won 12 of 13 matches against the Blue Jays. Jack Combs (107 pounds), Jaxson Schumann (133), Korbin Kraft (139), Cohen Racine (145), Gavin Tanberg (160), Evan Racine (172), Evan Berg (189), Tucker Nelson (215) and Kale Risbrudt (285) all won via pins. Seven of Minot United’s pins came in the first round.

Eliah Rogers won his match over Jamestown’s Cole Anderson with a 17-1 technical fall at 127 pounds.

Ryker Stoddart had the lone victory for the Blue Jays (0-8, 0-5), earning a technical fall victory over Vincent Martinez at 152 pounds.

Minot United earned another five pins against Turtle Mountain. They also received 12 points via forfeit and Martinez got a 17-2 technical fall over Neziah Champagne.

Cohen Racine, Berg and Nelson recorded their second pins of the day, while Tavyn Blackaby (133) and Liam Neff (285) won via pin in their only match.

The Braves (4-4, 1-3) won five matches – three by technical fall, one by major decision and one by pin.

Minot United spars with Williston in Mandan on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 10 a.m.
