Beavers break records in Bison Open Day 1

The Minot State Beavers broke fifteen personal and season records during the first day of the Bison Open Track & Field Meet in Fargo on Friday, Feb. 6, including five career bests.

The Beavers headed to Fargo as part of their final push before the NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships happening later this month.

Freshman Justin Williams led the charge for the Beavers in the Men’s 200 Meter race, earning a career best in the event with a 22.40 second time and a fourth place finish. Redshirt freshman Tyson Ruzicka made his season best in the event with his time of 23.74 seconds.

Senior Summer Krebsbach led the Beavers’ women’s track & field team with her third place finish in the Women’s 200 Meter race with a time of 25.36 seconds.

Sophomore Zander Grover also earned a career best on Friday afternoon with his fifth place time of one minute 25.26 seconds in the Men’s 600 Meter. Freshman Cameron Hummel also earned a personal record in the same event, finishing in 11th place with a time of one minute 33.80 seconds.

Senior Peyton Tuhy didn’t break any personal or season records during the first day of the Bison Open, but he was able to finish fifth in the Men’s 1000 Meter races with a time of two minutes 32.39 seconds. Junior Auston Lemer was the only Beaver to break a personal record in the Men’s 1000 Meter races, finishing 31st with his time of three minutes 2.02 seconds.

Junior Bailey Wride placed fourth in the Women’s 1000 Meter, but it was senior Nicole Reeves that earned a season best in the race with a time of three minutes 22.27 seconds.

Juniors Holter Bridwell and Jake Jenkins and freshman Nolan Berglof all made career records in the Men’s 3000 Meter race, taking fifth, 16th and 25th place respectively.

Senior Emery Smith took eighth place in the Women’s 3000 Meter race with her new personal record at 10 minutes 29.43 seconds. Sophomore Julie Folk also broke her career record in the event, taking 16th place with a time of 11 minutes 13.62 seconds.

Freshmen Kaiya Chell and Jamie Ward were the only Beavers to place in the field events of the Bison Open. Both broke career records in the Women’s Weight Throw event with distances of 12.00 meters and 11.86 meters respectively.

The Beavers ended the first day of events in fifth place with a total of 19 points, just ahead Bismarck State with 13 points in sixth.

The second day of events begins on Saturday, Feb. 7 with the Men’s Heptathon 60 Meter Hurdles at 11:00 a.m. on the track at the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track and Field Facility in Fargo.
