Women’s Hockey: Beavers tie with No. 4 McKendree to close out showcase

The Minot State women’s hockey team went unbeaten in the weather-shortened WMCH Showcase following a 3-3 tie against fourth-ranked McKendree on Friday, Jan. 23, in Lebanon, Ill.

The Beavers (12-6-6) battled back from a pair of one-goal deficits. Paige Kozak tied the game 1-1 in the first and Erica Fijala did the same in the second.

Cameron Schmidt gave the Beavers their first lead of the contest in the third period, but the Bearcats returned the favor by rallying with the game-tying goal midway through the stanza to force overtime.

Neither team could net the game-winner in the extra session. It goes down as a tie on the record, but Minot State skated away with bragging rights after winning the shootout 2-1.

The Beavers were scheduled to play Liberty in the final game of the showcase on Saturday as well as take part in an all-star game on Sunday, but the final two days were canceled due to impending weather approaching the St. Louis area over the weekend.

The Beavers host a weekend series with Midland at Maysa Arena beginning on Friday, Jan. 30, at 3:45 p.m.

Starting at $2.99/week.
