For the first time since the end of the 2021-22 season, the Minot State women hit double digits, led by a near single-game record 5 goals by Journey Miller, as the Beavers skated to a 10-2 win at the All Seasons Arena on Saturday over No. 13 Indiana Tech.
The 5th-ranked Beavers (11-6-5 overall, 7-6-1 WMCH) led 5-1 after two periods, thanks in part to a natural hat trick by Miller in the session, then blew the game open with five more third-period goals.
Riding the momentum of the biggest offensive output since an 11-1 win over Minnesota on February 25, 2022, in the first round of the WMCH Tournament, Minot State now heads to the WMCH Showcase in Chesterfield, Missouri, to play Lindenwood on Thursday, McKendree on Friday, and Liberty on Saturday.
Saturday night, the Beavers opened with a pair of first-period goals just 1 minute, 17 seconds apart, as Paige Crossley scored her first collegiate goal, then Karlyn Guz made it 2-0.
Then, 4:04 into the second period, Journey Miller took over, scoring her first of three straight in the period for the Beavers, sandwiched around a solo goal for the Warriors (8-14-1, 6-4-0 CCWHA).
But neither Miller, nor the Beavers, were done.
Comfortably in front 5-1 headed to the third, Minot State got another goal from Gudz before Miller’s fourth of the night.
Paige Kozak added a goal for the Beavers, then Miller put her fifth of the game in the net with 4:13 left to play, the second-most goals in a single game in Minot State history.
The Beavers’ Sami Jo Henry netted 6 goals for Minot State in September of 2018, as did Mackenzie Balogh in February of 2019.
After one more goal for Indiana Tech, Abby Tallman capped the scoring for the Beavers with 54 seconds left on the clock, making it a 10-2 contest.
All the offense benefited Minot State goalie Bailey Grunewald, who earned her 3rd collegiate win in goal, making 9 saves on the night.
