Majettes remain undefeated with 78-48 rout over Jamestown

Nathan Beitler/MDN Minot High senior Maggie Fricke drives the ball toward the basket in the team’s home game against the Jamestown Blue Jays on Tuesday night, Jan. 6.

The Minot High Majettes remain one of the few undefeated Class AA girls basketball teams in North Dakota as they take down the Jamestown Blue Jays 78-48 in their home game on Tuesday night, Jan. 6.

The Majettes put on another offensive masterclass on the court starting early in the first half with a 6-0 lead. The Blue Jays were never more than a few points behind the Majettes in the early minutes of the game, getting as close as a 20-19 deficit before the Majettes ran away with the ball in the rest of the half. The Majettes took their first double-digit lead with just under seven minutes left in the first half when senior Maggie Fricke scored an unguarded three-pointer. The first half of the game ended with a fade-away miss by the Blue Jays, giving the Majettes a 47-30 heading into half time.

Fricke led the Majettes in total points in the first half with 14 total, just ahead of senior Leelee Bell. Fricke made her return to the court last week on Friday, Jan. 2, missing out on more than a year of play due to an injury. Last week’s performance spelled good news for her prospects for the rest of the season, and she capitalized on her extra play time during the first half of the Majettes’ Tuesday night game.

The Majettes kicked off the second half of the game once again with a three-pointer by senior Ariana Rood. The Majettes went on a short nine-point run in the early minutes of the second half, with the Blue Jays scoring their first point of the half on a free-throw. The Minot defense and offense both found their groove in the second half, with the Majettes racking up an additional 31 points in the second half and only allowing the Blue Jays 18 of their own. The last points of the ball game were scored by the Blue Jays from a free throw with one minute 44 seconds left in the game. The Majettes walked away Tuesday night with another victory, taking down Jamestown 78-38. Leelee Bell led the Majettes in total points for the game, scoring 12 points in the first and second halves to total 24 on the night. Maggie Fricke followed with 17 total points on the night and 13 by senior Eve Knutson.

The Majettes remain one of three teams still undefeated in the WDA Conference, along with the Century Patriots and the Mandan Braves. The Majettes will be back on the road later this week, but won’t have to travel far as they take on the Minot North Sentinels at Minot North High School this Friday, Jan. 9.

Starting at $2.99/week.
