Dissette’s dagger shot leads Minot State over Mary 86-83
Darik Dissette knocked down a dagger jumper with 1:09 left in the game to put Minot State ahead 80-73, and the Beavers secured an 86-83 victory against the Mary Marauders at home Saturday.
The Beavers (8-6, 5-3) had four players score in double figures, led by Isaiah Alexander, who had 18 points and nine rebounds. Deuce Benjamin added 15 points and three steals and Kiku Parker Jr. chipped in as well with 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals off of the bench.
Minot State out-rebounded Mary 40-36 in Saturday’s game, paced by Alexander’s nine boards. The Beavers also pulled down 15 offensive rebounds and scored 21 second chance points.
Minot State forced 18 Mary turnovers while committing 15 themselves in Saturday’s game. The Beavers turned those takeaways into 19 points on the offensive end of the floor. Benjamin’s three steals led the way for Minot State.
After falling behind 29-25, Minot State went on a 7-0 run with 3:46 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Lovasoa Andriatsarafara, to take a 32-29 lead. The Beavers then maintained that lead and entered halftime with a 41-38 advantage. Minot State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 32 of its 41 points close to the basket.
Mary proceeded to take a 47-45 lead before Minot State went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Dylan Gichaba’s jumper, to seize a 53-47 lead with 14:03 to go in the contest. The Marauders narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Beavers still held on for the 86-83 win. Minot State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 19 of its 45 total points.
