Boys Wrestling: Minot United falls in dual to Mandan

The Minot United boys wrestling team won four matches against Mandan, but it wasn’t enough as the Braves won the remaining nine to come away with a 49-23 victory in a WDA dual on Thursday, Jan. 15.

Jack Combs, Tayven Blackaby, Korbin Kraft and Tucker Nelson all earned victories in their respective matches. All four entered the match ranked in the top eight in their respective weight classes in the latest coaches poll.

Combs pinned Mandan’s Ryker Kreidt in 1 minute, 32 seconds at 107 pounds to get Minot United off to a good start. The Braves won the next three matches before Tayven Blackaby recorded a pin of Owen Bahm in 1:03 at 133.

Kraft – ranked as the top wrestler in the 139-pound division – earned five points for Minot United (0-3 overall, 0-2 WDA) with an 18-2 technical fall against Kellen Beneke. Nelson delivered Minot United’s final victory, pinning Lane Fuchs in 3:25 at 215.

Mandan (2-1, 2-1) earned six of its victories via pins, two others by way of major decisions and one from a technical fall.

Minot United’s next WDA dual is against Jamestown on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. at Magic City Campus.
