Boys Swimming & Diving: Minot North wins dual with West Fargo Horace

The Minot North boys swimming and diving team won 10 of 12 events, including the final nine to easily win its dual with West Fargo Horace, 116-64, on Friday, Jan. 23.

Barrett Hannegrefs won both of his individual events and was part of the Sentinels’ two victories in the relays. Hannegrefs was the lone swimmer to win both of his individual events for either team.

The Hawks opened the dual strong, winning two of the first three events. Horace claimed the 200-yard medley relay, with its ‘A’ squad of Parker Bearinger, Axel Anderson, JJ Kalash and Adam Bamba completing the race in 1 minute, 54.56 seconds. Anderson then won the 200 IM medley two events later.

Minot North dominated the rest of the dual. Sandwiched in between the two victories for the Hawks was Hannegrefs first victory of the day, taking the 200 freestyle in 1:57.60. He would later win the 100 butterfly in 57.45.

Also earning wins for the Sentinels in individual events were Tyler Warren (50 freestyle), Jameson Langager (100 freestyle), Gavin Diede (500 freestyle), Levon Stai (100 backstroke) and Tim Sharp-Driver (100 breaststroke). Nikolas Wilkie dominated in the 1-meter diving, scoring 159.60 points to easily top his only competition in Horace’s Reeve Morris.

Minot North also won the final two relays. Hannegrefs, Ethan Kelley, Langager and Warren carried the 200 freestyle relay to a victory in 1:39.60. In the 400 freestyle relay, it was Warren, Langager, Hannegrefs and Sharp-Driver touching the wall first, coming in at 3:40.02. The Sentinels won the relay by more than 20 seconds.

The Sentinels finished with the top three finishers in both the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle.
