Boys Swimming & Diving: Magicians take “Dual in the Pool” victory over Sentinels
Bragging rights were on the line when the Minot High and Minot North boys swimming and diving programs met at Minot North High School to compete in the Dual in the Pool on Thursday, Jan. 15.
The Magicians came out on top, besting their crosstown rival 114-69. Minot High won six of the nine individual events and swept the three relays to come out with the victory.
Andrew Francis led the way for the Magicians with wins in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 butterfly, and was the lead swimmer in the 200 freestyle relay and the final leg in the 400 freestyle relay. Francis won the 200 IM in 2 minutes, 6.70 seconds and the 100 butterfly in 55.83. The Magicians had the three fastest times in the 100 butterfly.
Gavin King (200 freestyle), Tayson Solper (1-meter diving), Luke Neumann (100 freestyle) and Jack Doering (100 backstroke) also took home victories in their respective events for Minot High.
Barrett Hannegrefs won both of his individual events for the Sentinels. He edged out Talmage Pehrson of Minot High in the 50 freestyle, coming in at 23.43. Pehrson finished in 23.81. Hannegrafs again won by the slimmest of margins in the 500 freestyle, winning the race in 5:21.97. Minot High’s Josiah Reiss came in second with a time of 5:22.35.
Tim Sharp-Driver was Minot North’s other individual winner, claiming the 100 backstroke in 1:08.73. The Sentinels went 1-2 in the event.
