Boys Swimming & Diving: Magicians dominate dual meet against Williston

The Minot High boys swimming & diving team won nine of 12 events and cruised to a 100-50 victory over Williston in a dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 10, in Williston.

Andrew Francis and Luke Neumann each won both of their individual events, Tayson Solper claimed another victory in 1-meter diving and the Magicians won two of the three relays.

The Coyotes won just three events, but two of those came in the first four events of the dual. They claimed the 200-yard medley relay and Caden Huravitch won the 50 freestyle. But the Magicians dominated the rest of the meet.

Francis won the first event of the afternoon for the Magicians in the 200 freestyle. He finished with a time of 1 minute, 51.61 seconds, just under three seconds ahead of Williston’s Zach Budd. Francis would add another victory to his day in the pool in the 100 freestyle.

Neumann also won a pair of individual events with the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke. The Magicians took three of the top four spots in the 200 IM. Neumann finished the race in 2:13.20. Neumann led a trip of top finishers in the backstroke. He edged out Rylin Solper by two seconds, finishing in 1:01.33. Josiah Reiss placed third in the event.

Francis was part of both relay victories and Neumann served as the final leg in the 400 freestyle relay, which won by more than 15 seconds. The 200 freestyle relay squad of Talmage Pehrson, Caden Brey, Hunter Barnard and Francis won its race by nine seconds.

Pehrson dominated the 100 butterfly in 57.82. Williston’s Tytus Guglich was second in 1:05.60.

Tayson Solper and Holden Williams went 1-2 in the diving event. Solper scored 232.85 points, while Williams scored 200.15 points.

Gavin King had the final victory for the Magicians, scoring a win in the 500 freestyle. He won the event by 11 seconds, finishing in 5:44.48.

Caden Huravitch in the 50 freestyle and Zach Budd in the 100 breaststroke scored victories for Williston.
