Boys Hockey: Minot United shuts out Packers at West Fargo Winter Classic
The Minot United boys hockey team took its game outside and came away with the same result as the last eight times they’ve played indoors – a win.
Minot United took part in the West Fargo Winter Classic on Tuesday, Dec. 30, held outdoors at The Lights and dominated the host Packers, posting a 6-0 victory to stretch its winning streak to nine games and capping off an undefeated month of December.
Six different skaters registered goals and 11 tallied a point, while Minot United goaltenders Luke Richeson and Canton Christians split time to share a 19-save shutout.
Brady Grosz got Minot United (9-2-0-0) on the board at 4:11 of the first period on the team’s first opportunity with the man advantage. With West Fargo’s Noah Betker in the box for tripping, Grosz scored his second goal of the season, with Easton Bradley and Nick Christopher earning assists.
Minot United broke the game open with a three-goal second period. Oliver Thompson and Bradley scored 10 seconds apart and Jaycee Lemon lit the lamp with just two seconds remaining in the stanza.
Landin Slind and Michael Ell added goals in the third period. Minot United outshot West Fargo 33-19. It’s Minot United’s third shutout of the season and second straight after blanking Bismarck High, 9-0, on Monday, Dec. 22. Minot United is allowing just 1.82 goals per game this season.
Minot United hosts Devils Lake at Maysa Arena on Thursday, Jan. 8, at 7:30 p.m.
