Beavers women Set for NSIC road matchups

The Minot State women’s basketball team heads back on the road this week as Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play continues, following a challenging weekend at home inside the Minot State University Dome.

The Beavers enter the week with a 7-10 overall record and a 4-6 mark in NSIC action after dropping a pair of contests to St. Cloud State and Minnesota State last weekend.

Minot State opened the weekend Friday night with an 80-71 loss to St. Cloud State in a tightly contested matchup. The Beavers showcased strong perimeter play on both ends of the floor, knocking down 11 three-pointers while holding the Huskies to just 19 percent shooting from beyond the arc. Taryn Hamling led Minot State with 16 points, five steals, and two blocks, while Jaime Skeggs and Jessica Mogen each added 10 points. The Beavers also received a strong contribution from the bench, which accounted for 24 points.

Minot State built momentum early, using a 13-0 run late in the first quarter to take a 25-16 lead, and carried a 43-40 advantage into halftime. The Beavers continued to hold the lead through three quarters before St. Cloud State surged in the final period to secure the comeback victory.

Saturday’s game saw Minot State fall 95-56 to Minnesota State despite another productive effort from the bench. Hamling again paced the Beavers with 14 points, while Lara Dobbins added eight points. Maya Aguilar provided a strong presence on the glass, pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with two steals. Minot State battled throughout but faced an early deficit that the Mavericks continued to build on in the second half.

Across the weekend, Hamling remained a consistent offensive and defensive presence for the Beavers, while Minot State’s bench continued to provide valuable production.

This week, Minot State travels for two important conference road games. The Beavers will face Southwest Minnesota State on Friday, January 16, with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m., before taking on Sioux Falls on Saturday, January 17, at 5:30 p.m. as NSIC play moves forward.
