Women’s Hockey: Beavers close out calendar year with split of No. 2 Midland
The Minot State women’s hockey team picked up its biggest win of the season to date, knocking off No. 2 Midland University, 2-0, on the road on Friday, Dec. 5. It’s the Beavers’ fifth victory against a currently ranked opponent and fourth victory via shutout.
Erica Fijala got the sixth-ranked Beavers (7-5-6) on the board 3:09 into the first period on an assist from Payton Lang. After a scoreless second period, Abby Pineau netted a goal on the power play at 11:16 of the final frame.
Jillian Ackerman picked up the win in net for the Beavers, stopping all 20 shots she faced. The Minot State netminder is 5-5-1 this season with a 1.53 goals against average and a .947 save percentage. She has five shutouts, four resulting in wins and one in a scoreless tie.
Midland (21-2-2) salvaged the weekend split the following day, topping the Beavers, 3-1, on Saturday, Dec. 6. The Warriors scored at even strength, on the power play and shorthanded.
Midland netted the game’s first three goals, with Heidi Danners and Victoria Campbell scoring in the opening frame and Ashlyn Kuffler added a power play goal in the second.
Cameron Schmidt scored the lone goal for the Beavers in the third period on the power play.
The Beavers return to action in 2026, when they host a weekend series with the University of Jamestown beginning on Friday, Jan. 9, at 3:45 p.m. at All Seasons Arena at the ND State Fairgrounds.
