Women’s Basketball: Slow start dooms Beavers against Duluth
The Minot State women’s basketball team surrendered 17 of the game’s first 21 points and couldn’t recover, falling to Minnesota Duluth, 83-69, on Thursday, Dec. 18.
The Beavers fell behind 28-9 at the end of the first quarter before outscoring the Bulldogs over the final three frames. Five Minot State players scored in double figures. Maya Aguilar and Taryn Hamling each led the Beavers with 15 points. Jaime Skeggs had 12 off the bench, and Lara Dobbins and Jessica Mogen each added 10.
Minot State (6-7 overall, 3-3 NSIC) was 4-for-13 in the opening quarter, while the Bulldogs hit 10 of 19, including five 3-pointers.
Claire Bjorge registered a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs (8-2, 6-0). Myra Moorjani also tallied a double-double, scoring 17 points and dishing out 10 assists. Grace Counts (16) and Maria Counts (10) also finished in double figures.
Minot State shot over 40 percent from the field in each of the final three quarters.
The Beavers trailed 47-25 at halftime. Duluth led by as many as 29 points in the third quarter.
Minot State travels to Bemidji State on Saturday, Dec. 20, at 3:30 p.m.
