Women’s Basketball: Hamling leads Beavers past South Dakota Mines
Taryn Hamling scored 17 of her game-high 28 points in the fourth quarter to help the Minot State women’s basketball team come away with a 75-69 victory over South Dakota Mines on Saturday, Nov. 29.
The teams entered the fourth quarter tied at 52, but the Beaver defense kept the Hardrockers off the scoreboard for more than seven minutes to start the final frame. During that span, the Beavers (3-5) scored 13 points. Hamling tallied 11 of those points, including a pair of 3-pointers for Minot State to take a 65-52 lead.
South Dakota Mines (1-6) cut the lead to as little as four points with 1:15 left in regulation, but Hamling ended the Hardrockers’ comeback attempt with her fifth trey of the contest. Hamling shot 9-for-16 from the field and 5-for-10 from behind the arc. Tiyahna Trottier and Maya Aguilar also scored in double figures, putting up 16 and 12 points, respectively. Aguilar also pulled down six rebounds.
The Beavers hit 26 of their 55 shots and knocked down 10 3s.
Savea Mansfield finished with a team-high 20 points for South Dakota Mines. Morning Grace Spotted Bear tallied a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Minot State returns home to host the University of Jamestown in an NSIC contest on Thursday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m.
