Minot United gymnastics places second at invite

The Minot United gymnastics team continued a strong start to its season with its second consecutive second-place finish, this time at the Julie Ziegler Memorial Meet at the Bismarck Gymnastics Academy on Thursday, Dec. 11.

Minot United finished with a team score of 138.875 points, edging out Jamestown, which finished with 137.175 points to place third. Dickinson won the event with 150.550 points for its second victory of the season. The Mavericks took the top score in all four events as well as the all-around. Bismarck Century (133.750) and Mandan (132.475) rounded out the top five.

Minot United opened the season with a runner-up finish at the Milo Dullum Meet in Dickinson on Dec. 5.

Dickinson’s Aspen Roadarmel took top honors in the uneven bars, floor exercise and all-round, while teammates Reygan Strommen and Callie Golke claimed the titles in the vault and balance beam, respectively. The Mavericks finished with the top six scores in the all-around competition.

Minot United’s Gracyn Bergan and Kiera Davis placed in the top five of their respective events for their team’s top finish in the meet. Bergan scored a 9.100 in the vault and Davis scored a 9.150 in the floor exercise. Bergan cracked the top 10 in the all-around, placing eighth with 34.625 points. Bergan also claimed seventh in the floor exercise and 13th in the uneven bars.

Cadence Bagi was Minot United’s top finisher in the uneven bars with a seventh-place finish with a score of 8.800, followed right behind her by Pavyn Peterson at 8.750. Peterson placed in the top 10 in the floor exercise as well, taking ninth with a score of 8.700. Laikyn Halverson finished 11th in the balance beam for the top spot on the team, earning an 8.750 from the judges.

Dickinson took the top three spots in each event but the uneven bars. Northwest Stars’ Presley Hill – the lone competitor on the team – took third place with a score of 9.350. Hill finished seventh in the all-around.

Minot United competes next in the Mandan Christmas Meet at Dakota Star Gymnastics on Friday, Dec. 19, at 5 p.m.
