Class AA girls basketball: Majettes, Sentinels cruise to victories

The Minot High girls basketball team continued its dominant start to the season with another lopsided victory, knocking off West Fargo Sheyenne, 81-50, on Saturday, Dec. 13, at Magic City Campus.

Senior Leelee Bell led all scorers with 27 points. Kinley Bartsch also had an impressive night scoring the basketball, pouring in 23 points. Everette Deschamp joined Bell and Barsch in double figures with 12 points.

The Mustangs kept the game within reach heading into the half, trailing 38-24, but the Majettes controlled the second half, scoring 43 points to remain unbeaten. Minot High has topped 80 points in each of its first two games

Evie Sevald finished with a team-high 13 points for the Mustangs. Zoe Kenne and Sabrina Staab each added 11.

Minot High opens West Region play when it travels to play Bismarck St. Mary’s on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 6 p.m.

Also getting a decisive win was Minot North, which jumped out to a big lead by halftime and cruised the rest of the way, defeating Grand Forks Central, 85-46, in its home opener. The Sentinels won their season opener for the first time in its brief two-year varsity history after losing to Grand Forks Red River last season.

Four Sentinels finished in double figures, led by Elli Laskowski, who scored a game-high 31 points. Cambree Phillips (15), Brynn Francis (11) and Sheyenne Bingeman (10) also eclipsed double digits in the scorebook.

Minot North poured in 56 points in the first half, taking a 36-point lead into halftime.

Jacie Reardon scored 19 points to pace the Knights.

The Sentinels travel to play Bismarck Legacy on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 6 p.m. to start their conference schedule.
