Boys Swimming & Diving: Minot High 3rd, Minot North 7th at Capital City Invite

The Minot High and Minot North boys swimming and diving teams jumped into the pool for the first time this season in a competitive event, traveling to Bismarck for the Capital City Invite at the Bismarck State Aquatic Center on Saturday, Dec. 20.

The Magicians finished with a team score of 305.5 to place third and Tayson Solper took home the top dive of the event, garnering a score of 353.35 points. The Sentinels placed seventh with a score of 175 points.

Bismarck Century won the event with a score of 384, taking the top spot in both the 100-meter butterfly and the 100 backstroke thanks to Isaac Vallie. Fargo North finished second with 342, followed by Jamestown (274) and Moorhead, Minn. (227) in fifth to round out the top five. Ten teams competed in the event – seven from the WDA.

Along with Solper’s individual title in the 1-meter diving, the Magicians had a top-five finish in the butterfly, breaststroke and 200 freestyle relay. Luke Neumann grabbed a second-place finish in the butterfly behind Vallie, finishing the event in 56.91 seconds. Caden Brey took fifth in the breaststroke in 1:08.83 and both were a part of a relay team along with Josiah Reiss and Andrew Francis that placed third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:35.47.

Minot North had a pair of top-five finishers in Tyler Warren and Barrett Hannegrefs.Warren placed fourth in the 50 freestyle in a time of 23.71 and Hannegrefs took fifth in the butterfly with a time of 59.26.
