Women’s Soccer: Beavers post pair of wins, stretch unbeaten streak to 7

The Minot State women’s soccer team continues to collect points in the Northern Sun standings, earning six more over the weekend with two more wins.

The Beavers began the weekend with a 2-0 victory over Minnesota Crookston on Friday, Oct. 31, and closed out the weekend by claiming a 4-1 win against Minnesota State Moorhead on Sunday, Nov. 2.

Sabrina Amezcua and Sierra Haren netted goals against Crookston and Rebecca Sargent needed to make just one save to earn the shutout in net for the Beavers. Amezcua’s goal came in the 22nd minute and Haren added the insurance goal in the 82nd.

The Beavers (8-5-4 overall, 8-2-4 NSIC) held a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Minot State fell behind early against the Dragons, yielding a goal in the 5th minute to Lilly Johnson. But the Beavers responded quickly as Miotto scored her eighth goal of the season in the 8th minute.

The teams went into the locker room tied 1-1 before the Beavers broke the match open with a three-goal second half. Miotto added her second of the match and ninth of the season in the 55th minute and Amezcua tacked on her second of the weekend in the 63rd. Iliana Rivera provided the other in the 68th minute as the Beavers remained unbeaten in their last seven contests.

Sargent made three saves for her second win of the weekend.

The Beavers close out the regular season on Thursday, Nov. 6, against the University of Mary at 2 p.m. at Herb Parker Stadium.
