State B Volleyball: Cardinals repeat; Knights finish 4th, Mustangs 8th
Our Redeemer’s was just a couple points away from a third-place finish at the state tournament, but Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier made a late run in the fifth set to pull off the come back and claim the third-place match over the Knights, 25-21, 24-26, 25-13, 18-25, 18-16, on Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Bismarck Event Center.
The fourth-place finish was the Knights’ fourth in program history in 12 appearances at the state tournament. They also have two second-place finishes, two third-place finishes, and one finish each of fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth.
“It just goes back to just how much they enjoy playing the sport,” Our Redeemer’s coach Kara Nunziato said. “Even if you’re not in a championship-game situation, which is obviously everyone’s dream to play in the championship match, we still got to come together today and play one last game as a team and it was fun to watch them interact and enjoy the moment.”
Brooklynn Roedocker led the offense with 21 kills to earn a spot on the all-tournament team. Lauren Strom (14) and Noel Pankratz (11) also finished in double figures.
Strom and Roedocker both had two blocks and Roedocker had three aces along with Tessa Carlson and Ellie Streyle. The Knights served up 11 aces for the match. Streyle led the defense with 23 digs.
