Prep Volleyball: Class B Region 3 field set

The road to the state tournament got under way last week with 20 teams across District 5 and District 6 looking to secure the eight spots up for grabs in the Region 3 field set to take place on Monday, Nov. 10, at the Minot State University Dome.

The eight-team field is now set, with the top four teams in District 5 advancing. Kenmare-Bowbells will be the No. 1 seed out of the district after sweeping Trenton in the championship match. Divide County earned the No. 3 seed after outlasting Tioga in five sets, 25-23, 22-25, 25-18, 21-25, 15-11, in a regional-qualifier. Ray will serve as the No. 4 seed after a sweep of Alexander.

It wasn’t the top four seeds coming out of District 6. Instead, it was the No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 10 seeds earning a spot in the regional tournament. Glenburn secured its first district tournament title in program history by sweeping Our Redeemer’s in the championship match. Newburg-Westhope came out on top over Velva in five sets, 25-20, 9-25, 25-21, 17-25, 15-11, to claim the No. 3 seed. Surrey – the 10th seed as a result of forfeiting its entire regular season slate of games – knocked off Berthold in four sets to grab the No. 4 seed.

The Region 3 tournament gets underway at 3 p.m. with Kenmare-Bowbells playing Surrey at 3 p.m. Our Redeemer’s and Divide County will meet after, followed by Glenburn and Ray and capped off with Trenton playing Newburg-Westhope.

The winner of the regional tournament will receive an automatic bid to the state tournament, while the runner-up and winner of the third-place match will also have opportunities to advance to state with matches against Region 4.
