Men’s Wrestling: Beavers place three wrestlers at Dakota Wesleyan Open
Gavin Turk, Cole Faircloth and Shafer Ehmke all made deep runs in their respective weight divisions at the Dakota Wesleyan Open on Saturday, Nov. 8.
Turk (174 pounds) and Faircloth (133) both placed fifth and Ehmke (197) took home sixth-place honors. Turk squared off in six matches on the day, going 4-2. He won his opening match over Augustana’s Josh Wagener with an 11-9 decision and followed that up with a technical fall in 2 minutes, 32 seconds over Iowa Lakes Community College’s Nicholas Moore. A third consecutive victory was met with back-to-back defeats before receiving fifth via forfeit.
Faircloth’s road to a fifth-place finish looked a bit different than Turk’s, but did open with a victory via major decision over Fort Hays State’s Jeff Schwartz, 19-6. Faircloth dropped the next two matches before pinning Jamestown’s Elijah Nose in 4:18.
Ehmke won three watches at 197, including his opener via technical fall against U-Mary’s Ty Wiedrich in 6:36. He also claimed a 13-1 major decision against Moorhead’s Kishmar Eberline and a 12-10 decision over Augustana’s Sam McEnelly.
The Beavers host the Beaver Bash Duals on Friday, Nov. 21, at the MSU Dome beginning at 10 a.m.
