Men’s Hockey: Beavers surrender late goal in loss to U-Mary
It’s been a mostly one-sided rivalry over the years in terms of wins and losses, but the Minot State men’s hockey team suffered a rare defeat at the hands of rival U-Mary on Saturday, Nov. 8, dropping a 2-1 contest to the Marauders at Starion Sports Complex.
U-Mary’s Amraj Gill netted the game-winning goal with just 90 seconds remaining in regulation with a shot from the blue line to snap an eight-game losing streak to the Beavers. It was the Marauders’ first victory against their rivals since Jan. 24, 2024. Minot State has won 25 of 30 career meetings with a pair of ties mixed in.
Minot State (7-1-1) grabbed a first-period lead on a power-play goal from Jay Buchholz, its only goal with the extra skater in five opportunities. U-Mary was whistled for nine infractions over the course of the contest and the Beavers took advantage of the five-minute major assessed to Jaxon Grosdidier for checking from behind.
The Marauders (10-5-0) tied the game at 3:07 of the second period on their lone power-play goal of the contest. With Eric Krywy in the box for cross checking, U-Mary’s David Loahr got his team on the board as the teams went into the second intermission tied 1-1.
The Beavers held a 39-27 edge in shots on goal. U-Mary goaltender Caleb Cross finished with 38 saves to earn the win. Will Dyke stopped 25 shots for the Beavers, who suffered their first loss in regulation this season.
Minot State returns home for a two-game set with the University of Jamestown beginning on Friday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m.
