The Minot High Majettes fell to the East Division’s second-seeded West Fargo Sheyenne Mustangs in their quarterfinals match of the 2025 NDHSAA Class AA Volleyball State Tournament 3-0 in Bismarck on Thursday, Nov. 20.

The Majettes took the first point of the first set of the match, but the Mustangs quickly took back control, leading 6-1 before the Majettes could take their second point. Sheyenne kept their lead, wedding their gap with the Majettes by as much as nine points at 15-6. The Majettes went on a short run, trying to catch up with the Mustangs from a nine-point gap to a three point gap at 16-13. The closest the Majettes got to taking back the lead in the first set was at 18-16 before the Mustangs powered through the rest of the set, taking the match lead 1-0 over the Minot heading into the second set.

The second set of the match started with the Mustangs taking their first point, but the Majettes fought back hard, taking their first lead of the match since the first set at 4-3, and kept it though 7-6. The Mustangs took the lead back at 8-7 and kept it through the rest of the set. The Mustangs closed out the set with three straight points, giving them victory with a 25-16 over the Majettes.

The Mustangs and the Majettes were neck and neck in the early points of the third set of the match, with Minot taking a brief lead at 7-6, and kept it until Sheyenne took it back at 10-9. The Mustangs were able to keep the Majettes at bay, allowing just one or two points at a time in between their long scoring runs. The third and final set of the match ended with a 25-17 win for the Mustangs. The last set put the Mustangs over the top with a 3-0 final score against the Majettes.

Though their hopes for a state title were dashed, the Majettes are still scheduled to play in the consolation semifinals for a chance to place fifth in North Dakota. The Majettes are scheduled to play West Fargo Horace on Friday, Nov. 21, beginning at 1 p.m.
