Jones, Roedocker among Class B volleyball all-state team nominees

Mike Kraft/MDN Our Redeemer’s senior Brooklynn Roedocker earned second-team all-state honors on Monday, Nov. 24. Roedocker was also named all-district, all-region and was named to the all-state tournament team.

Both the Glenburn and Our Redeemer’s volleyball teams had plenty to celebrate this season, and now they each have another following the release of the Class B all-state first and second teams on Monday, Nov. 24.

Glenburn senior Emma Jones and Our Redeemer’s senior Brooklynn Roedocker were among the 24 names highlighted by the North Dakota High School Coaches Association (NDHSCA) as all-state players. Jones was named to the first team, while Roedocker was named to the second team. Velva’s Anya Olson was also named second-team all-state.

The Panthers had a banner season, winning their first district title in program history and finishing with a 29-7 record. Jones was a major reason for Glenburn’s success, earning all-district, all-region and now all-state honors. Jones had 10 kills and seven blocks in Glenburn’s district championship match against Our Redeemer’s. She finished the district tournament with 50 kills and 13 blocks and was named the District 6 Senior Athlete of the Year.

Other members of the first team were: Taya Aufforth (Kenmare-Bowbells), Lauren Bell (Park River-Fordville-Lankin), Cassie Christensen (Glen Ullin/Hebron), Hilary Haaven (Langdon Area/Munich), Cheryl Hayes (Tioga), Mya Kackman (Wyndmere/Lidgerwood), Ava Peterson (New Rockford-Sheyenne), Chaskee Schmidt (Flasher), Piper Schmidt (Flasher), Brooklyn Schumacher (Linton-HMB) and Brynn Sorenson (Medina-Pingree-Buchanan).

Roedocker helped guide the Knights to their 12th state appearance, winning their 12th region title and first as a member of Region 3 and earned the top seed in the District 6 Tournament along the way. She led the team in kills during the regular season with 388 and also compiled 59 aces and 39 blocks.

“We’re really excited for Brooklynn,” Our Redeemer’s coach Kara Nunziato said. “When you consider the number of teams in Region 3, earning all-state honors is a big accomplishment. Brooklynn has poured so much time and effort into the game of volleyball and into every team she’s been a part of.”

Roedocker finished with double figure kills in all three of her matches at the state tournament, including 21 in her final match against Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier. In her final state tournament, Roedocker registered 47 kills, five aces and four blocks and was named to the all-state tournament team, as the Knights finished fourth. Roedocker also earned all-district and all-region honors this season.

“To finish her senior season in the state tournament, make the all-state tournament team and be named to the all-state second team is truly the perfect end to an outstanding volleyball career,” Nunziato said.

Other members of the all-state second team were: Violet Bohl (Medina/Pingree/Buchanan), Maggie Clarys (Trenton), Elizabeth Fedje (Drayton/Valley-Endinburg), Maggie Jennings (Washburn), Kelsey Johnson (Griggs/Midkota), Karleigh Kadoun (Sargent County), Aubrey Kenner (Benson County), Elli Lloyd (Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier), Summer Meyer (Grant County) and Morgan Snyder (Central McLean).

In total, 17 seniors, six juniors and one freshman made up the list. Medina-Pingree-Buchanan swept the senior athlete and coach of the year awards, with Sorenson earning senior athlete and Jacie Connell earning coach of the year honors.
