Girls Swimming & Diving: Majettes record 11 top-16 finishes, Minot North 4 in prelims

The Minot High girls swimming & diving team will have 11 competitors racing in Saturday’s finals at the state meet at the Hulbert Aquatic Center in West Fargo following Friday’s preliminary round.

Needing to place in the top 16 to qualify for Saturday, the Majettes will be represented in six of the nine individual events as well as the three relays. They qualified swimmers in the 200-yard freestyle, 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 500 freestyle and Gracyn Bergan had the top score in the diving preliminaries. Minot High won’t be represented in the 200 individual medley, 100 backstroke or the 100 breaststroke.

Samantha VonBokern had the second-best qualifying times in both the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Maggie Fricke, Kirby Quam and Emily Dunstan all advanced to Saturday’s finals in both of their individual events.

The Majettes will be well represented in both the 200 and 500 freestyle, qualifying three swimmers in each event.

Minot North will have four chances to score points in the individual events. Abigail Wake qualified in both the 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle. Macey Blake qualified in the 1-meter diving and Zoe Bahr qualified in the 100 breaststroke.
