Prep Cross Country: Minot High’s Jackson earns all-state honors at Class A XC State Meet
For the second straight year, Minot High’s Kaylee Jackson is an all-state cross country runner.
The sophomore cemented that feat with a 16th-place finish at the Class A Girls Cross Country State Meet at Jamestown’s Parkhurst Campground and Pipestem Reservoir on Saturday, Oct. 25. Jackson took home all-state honors for the first time in her career at last year’s state meet when she finished in 15th place.
Jackson was the lone local runner at the event to crack the top 20 and earn the all-state designation. She completed the race in 19 minutes, 30 seconds. The Majettes placed ninth as a team with 222 points. Nineteen programs competed in the event.
Scout Ulrickson (38th), Alyviah Kopp (45th), Olivia Anderson (55th) and Kamryn Louser (68th) were the top-five runners to factor into the Majettes overall team score.
Williston claimed its third consecutive state title and sixth in seven years. The Coyotes placed four in the top 10 and finished with 41 points, edging out Bismarck Century, which finished in second place with 58 points. Fargo Shanley (134), Bismarck High (135) and Fargo Davies (159) rounded out the top five.
Century’s Ruby Ihmels won her third straight individual state title, finishing in 17:06.9. The junior completed the race more than a minute ahead of the next competitor, as Shanley’s Mykenna Johnson crossed the finish line in 18:11.7.
Ihmels’ teammate, Jillian Lemer, was named the senior athlete of the year and her coach, Kate Fox, was named coach of the year.
Bismarck High dominated the boys competition, taking home its fourth straight team state title and 21st overall. The Demons finished with 39 points, placing all five of its scorers in the top 20. Fargo Davies finished a distant second with 80 points. Williston (93), Century (100) and Shanley (140) rounded out the top five.
The Demons also laid claim to the individual champion with Owen Hintz claiming his second consecutive state title. Hintz took home the top spot in 15:27.8. Davies’ Luka Rout was second in 15:52.2. Hintz was named as the senior athlete of the year Bismarck High’s Scott Reichenberger was named coach of the year.
Minot High placed 15th with 509 points. Xavier Oswald was the Magi’s top performer, placing 68th in 17:48.7.
Minot North was 20th as a team with 635 points. Jon Folk paced the Sentinels, taking 62nd with a time of 17:40.1.
