Girls Golf: Christianson sisters named to all-state team
The Des Lacs-Burlington girls golf team had two players named to the Class B all-state team and they are more than just teammates.
They are also sisters.
Junior Laila Christenson and eighth-grader Lauryn Christianson were two of 12 golfers to receive the prestigious honor, announced on Monday, Oct. 6. Laila Christenson successfully defended her individual state title at this year’s state tournament at Pheasant Country Golf Course in South Heart. She shot 3-under over two days, winning the tournament by 12 strokes.
Laila Christenson won every tournament she entered. She claimed all eight regular season meets, as well as the Region 6 tournament and state tournament. She averaged a daily round of 72.25 and finished the season 1-over par over the course of 216 holes. She was under-par in six of her rounds this season.
While it would have been difficult for anybody to match the season Laila Christenson had on the golf course, Lauryn’s season was nothing to ignore. The youngest member on the team, Lauryn Christenson finished in the top five in all eight regular season tournaments she competed in. She also placed fourth at the Region 6 tournament and finished off her season with an eighth-place finish at the state tournament. Lauryn Christianson is the youngest all-state selection in DL-B history.
Heart River – this year’s state champion – placed three golfers on the all-state list, including senior athlete of the year Megan Robb. The six-year varsity player holds the school record for most individual career wins with 18. Robb qualified for state all six years and won the Region 5 title her junior and senior seasons. Heart River won two state titles and six region titles with her on the roster.
Robb was joined on the list by teammates Jaci Reisenauer and Laura Sitter.
Other members of the all-state team included Bottineau’s Eilee Rybchinski, Fargo Oak Grove’s Ellie Zuger, Kindred’s Kaylin Goldsmith, Lauren Mueller and Bailey Theuninck, LaMoure-Litchville-Marion’s Addie Robbins, and Park River’s Nora Wharam.
Heart River’s Kirby Robb was named the Class B girls golf coach of the year.
Prep Football: Sentinels remain No. 1 in Class AA; Davies returns to top spot in Class AAA
The Minot North football team pitched its second consecutive shutout and third of the season and remain the top team in Class AA as a result, while Fargo Davies is back atop the Class AAA polls after a three-week hiatus, as the state media polls were released on Monday, Oct. 6.
The Sentinels received 16 of 20 first-place votes following their 43-0 win at Watford City last week. Minot North has not allowed a point to WDA opponents through two weeks and are allowing just 4.7 points per game overall, which is the best in the state across both 11-man and 9-man.
Kindred received the remaining four first-place votes and are No. 2 in the latest polls. Grand Forks Central is third. The top three teams represent the remaining undefeated teams in Class AA. That will change as Kindred and Grand Forks Central meet this week in Grand Forks. Devils Lake – Minot North’s opponent this week – remains at No. 4, and Grand Forks Red River jumps into the rankings at No. 5.
Central Cass and Dickinson received votes.
A win against last week’s No. 1 team has Fargo Davies returning to the top spot in the rankings this week. The Eagles went on the road and posted a 42-22 victory against Fargo Shanley. Davies received 18 first-place votes and are back at No. 1 for the first time since holding the distinction for two weeks earlier in the season.
West Fargo Horace received the final two first-place votes and moved up one spot to No. 2. Bismarck Legacy also jumped a spot to No. 3, while Shanley fell to No. 4. Bismarck Century remained at No. 5.
