Class B girls’ golf has a back-to-back state medalist in Des Lacs-Burlington junior Laila Christianson, who successfully defended her medalist title on Tuesday, September 30 when she took home first place in the 2025 NDHSAA Class B Girls Golf State Tournament.
Christianson secured her second state medalist title in a row on Tuesday with an overall score of 141 at the Pheasant Country Golf Course in South Heart. She ended the second day’s round two under par, one of only two players to do so. The first round of the Class B state tournament took place the day before, on Monday, September 29. Christianson ended just one under par in the first round, making her three under for the entire tournament. She was the only player to finish under par overall. She started off strong, earring par or better on the first six holes of the course. She then hit a bogey on Pheasant Country’s 142 yard par three, putting her at par at that point in the round. Christianson was able to quickly bounce back though, earning three birdies over the next seven holes. One more bogey in the 15th hole set Christianson’s score at two under par for the round and secured her spot in first place.
Even with Christianson’s dominant victory, being twelve strokes ahead of the second place individual golfer, The Des Lacs-Burlington Lakers were only able to secure third place overall out of the 18 attending teams. The Lakers ended the day with an overall score of 655. The Lakers ended the first day of the tournament in fourth place, but their combined performance on day two helped push them into their top three spot.
Eighth grader Lauryn Christianson was the second highest place golfer for the Lakers during the week’s tournament, finishing in eighth place with an overall score 159 and ending the tournament 15 over par. Lauryn went ten over par in the first round of competition on Monday, but was able to reel her way back in round two, ending the round just five over par and securing a birdie on the course’s twelfth hole.
The 2025 NDHSAA Class A Girls Golf State Tournament took place over the same two days as the Class B tournament, ending with West Fargo Sheyenne taking home first place overall with a total score of 595. The Minot North Sentinels took home sixth place overall with a team score of 694. Their top golfer for the tournament was senior Emersyn Kopp, who took home 16th place individually with a score of 163, going 19 over par over the course of the tournament. Senior Kinzy Welstad ended the first day of the tournament tied for twelfth place, the highest of any other Sentinel at the time, with a score of 79, going just seven over par. Welstad had a rougher second day, moving back to finish in 20th place by the end of the tournament with a final score of 165.
Though they did not compete as a team, Minot High had three golfers compete in this week’s tournament: senior Katie Thomas, junior Taylor Deslauriers and eighth grader Claire Hendrickson. Thomas was the Majettes’ top golfer for the tournament, taking home 21st place individually with an overall score of 166. Thomas had a better second round than first, ending day two of the tournament just nine over par and securing three birdies on the day on the seventh, fourteenth and sixteenth holes. The 2025 NDHSAA Class A Girls Golf State Tournament was also on Monday and Tuesday, September 29 and 30, and took place at the Fargo Country Club. West Fargo Sheyenne senior Zoe Keene was the medalist for the tournament and ended with an overall score of 141, going three under par over the course of both days.
