Girls Golf: Minot North’s Welstad, Kopp named all-state

Minot North seniors Kinzy Welstad and Emersyn Kopp were named to the Class A all-state team, released on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

Welstad led the Sentinels with an average round of 79.1 this season. She finished third at the West Region tournament with a 78 and 20th at the state tournament with a two-day score of 165. Her best round of the season was a 74, which she carded twice, the first coming in the first event of the season during the Turtle Mountain Invite and the second at the Century Invite at Riverwood.

Welstad was named the WDA senior athlete of the year and finished with the second best average score among WDA golfers and was named all-conference and named to the all-region tournament team.

Kopp finished the season with an average round of 81 and took home medalist honors at her home course at Vardon in the Minot Invite, where she shot a 76, her best round of the season. She finished with six rounds in the 70s. She took second at the WDA tournament with a 77 and tied for 16th at the state tournament with a two-day total of 163.

Kopp had the fifth-best average score among WDA golfers and was also an all-conference selection and named to the all-region tournament team.

Also named to the all-state team were St. Mary’s Lola Huber, Fargo Davies’ Rose Solberg, Grand Forks Red River’s Ella Speidel and Alexis Fabian, Mandan’s Isabella Hale, Stray Ressler and Brooklyn Monteith, and West Fargo Sheyenne’s Payton Stocker, Zoe Keene and Ava Keene.

Solberg was named the outstanding senior athlete and Dan Wolf was named coach of the year after guiding Sheyenne to a state title.
