Prep Volleyball: Majettes win over Bismarck Legacy in 5 sets

Minot High volleyball fans couldn’t ask for the first home game of the season to be anymore exciting than it was, as the Magicians claimed a 5-set victory over Bismarck Legacy, 15-25, 25-19, 25-20, 20-25, 15-13, on Thursday, Sept. 4. In the process, the Majettes denied the Sabres a road sweep of the Minot schools, having defeated Minot North earlier in the week.

Kynsli Gillmore paced the Minot attack with 14 kills and was one of three players with 10+ kills. Everette Deschamp and Brooke Bedell finished with 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Gillmore also added a team-high 21 digs and two aces.

The Majettes (4-4 overall, 2-0 West Region) had 12 aces, with Deschamp and Mackenzie Dufner leading the way with three. Dufner also registered 44 assists.

Minot played in six 5-set matches last season, posting a 4-2 record.

The Majettes recorded seven blocks at the net. Hadley Faul and Dufner each posted a pair of blocks in the victory.

Minot returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 9, when they travel to play Williston at 7 p.m.

Boys Soccer: Minot North blanks Bismarck Century 1-0

Minot North overcame both Bismarck Century and high winds.

There were 11 players on the field for both sides, but the gusty winds made it feel like each team was playing with a few extra defenders, as offense was at a premium in Minot North’s 1-0 victory at Bismarck Century on Thursday, Aug. 4.

Following a scoreless first half in which the Patriots (3-3-1 overall, 3-3-1 West Region) had the wind at their back, the Sentinels used that wind to their advantage in the final 40 minutes, breaking the stalemate on an unassisted goal by Emerson Ries.

The Sentinels (4-4-1, 4-2-1) have won 3 of 4 and vaulted into a tie for second place with Minot High in the West Region standings with 13 points. Both trail Bismarck Legacy, which is undefeated in seven conference matches and has 21 points so far this season.

Minot North travels to play Mandan-St. Mary’s on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 7:30 p.m.

Starting at $2.99/week.
