Boys Tennis: Magicians, Sentinels solidify West Region seeding in decisive victories

Both the Minot High and Minot North boys tennis teams closed out their respective regular seasons with convincing victories and locked in their playoff seeding for next week’s dual tournament as a result.

The Magicians swept all three doubles matches and claimed all but one singles match in an 8-1 victory over Bismarck Century to lock in to the No. 3 seed for the dual tournament. The Sentinels will be the No. 5 seed in the dual tournament following their 7-2 victory over Bismarck High on Thursday, Sept. 25.

Minot High (15-5 overall, 5-2 West Region) got back in the win column after dropping a close match to Bismarck Legacy on Tuesday, Sept. 23. Century’s lone victory came at No. 1 singles, with Ryan Mullally defeating Nolan Moore, 6-4, 6-0. But Moore got revenge in his doubles match, teaming up with Henrik Evanoff to play a marathon match against Mullally and Cullen Satrom, 1-6, 6-4, 12-10.

Oliver Thompson, Connor Ressler, Evanoff, Tyson Barden and Aiden Bye all won their singles matches in straight sets, as did Thompson-Barden and Ressler and Calvin Olson in their doubles matches.

Minot North (6-8, 3-4) closed out the season winning three of its final four conference matches and five of its final six matches overall to head into the postseason with a bit of momentum. The Sentinels won three of their seven matches without dropping a single game. Brayden Callahan at No. 2 singles, Lucas Griffith at No. 4 singles and Parker Vigestad and Reece Blikre at No. 3 doubles all won 6-0, 6-0.

Vigestad, Blikre and Peyton Opp also won their singles matches, as did Callahan-Lucas Griffith and Colton Griffith-Opp in doubles.

The West Region dual tournament begins on Thursday, Oct. 2, in Mandan. The Magicians will play sixth-seeded Jamestown and the Sentinels will play fourth-seeded Bismarck Century. Both matches are at 10 a.m. Minot High defeated Jamestown, 7-2, on Sept. 15. Minot North dropped a 7-2 decision to Century on Aug. 26.
