West Fargo Sheyenne leads after Day 1

The East Region recorded the top three team scores on the opening day of the East-West Classic, led by West Fargo Sheyenne, which shot a 307 for an eight-stroke lead during the two-day event at Jamestown Country Club on Monday, Aug. 11.

The Mustangs placed its four top golfers in the top 16, led by Zoe Keene, who sits tied for third with a first round score of 74 at the Par 72 course. Fargo Davies’ Rose Solberg and Grand Forks Red Rivers’ Alexis Fabian both shot an even-par 72 to lead the field of 135.

Grand Forks Red River (315), Fargo Shanley (323), Mandan (332) and Minot North (348) rounded out the top five. Twenty-three schools are competing in the event. Bismarck St. Mary’s (355) and Williston (363) joined Mandan and Minot North as teams from the West Region to crack the top 10, sitting in seventh and ninth place, respectively, heading into the final day. Minot High is 11th at 364.

Bismarck St. Mary’s placed two golfers in the top 10, as Kate Wilson (75) and Lola Huber (77) are currently tied for fifth and tied for eighth, respectively. Mandan has three golfers in the top 20.

Minot North senior Emersyn Kopp carded a 78 and sits tied for 10th. She carded 12 pars on her round to lead the Sentinels. Teammate Kinzy Welstad shot an 85 and sits in 24th.

Minot High’s Maura Alexander carded the best round for the Magicians with an 86.

The tournament concludes Tuesday, Aug. 12, with tee time scheduled for 8 a.m.
