NSIC releases golf preseason coaches’ poll

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference has released their 2025-26 men’s and women’s golf preseason coaches’ poll.

The league coaches voted to place the Minot State women’s golf team to finish tenth in this year’s season. Last season, the women’s team finished sixth in the league, but this year they will be facing the new season with a new head coach; Gary “Dakota” Brekhus. Coach Brekhaus previously worked as an assistant coach for the women’s team in the last two seasons. This season’s player to watch from the women’s team is returning senior Zoe Banack. Banack was last season’s top finisher for the Beavers at 45th in the league with an average stroke count of 87.69. Minot State earned 46 points in the preseason poll, landing them their tenth place spot. Minnesota State took the top spot for the women’s golf poll with a total of 131 points.

The Minot State men’s golf team were picked to finish eighth in their golf preseason coaches’ poll with 27 points. The men’s team finished seventh overall during last season. The Minot State men’s team’s player to watch this year will be returning senior Zach Hendrickson, who finished in a tie for 42nd last season with an average stroke count of 76.16.

The new season will also see Minot North graduate Kasen Rostad joining the Beaver’s men’s team. In his senior year of high school, Rostad took home third place individually in the state golf tournament and the Minot North Sentinels won their first ever state title at the 2025 Class A Boys State Golf Tournament.

The Minot State Women’s golf team will begin their season on Monday and Tuesday, September 8-9, at the Tracy Lane Memorial hosted by Bemidji State University in Minnesota. The men’s team will begin the same days at at the Don Niskanen Classic, also hosted by Bemidji State.
