North Dakota drops LLBWS Midwest Region Championship

North Dakota lost in the Little League Baseball World Series Midwest Region Championship to South Dakota 0-6 during their rematch on Friday, Aug. 8.

North Dakota and South Dakota first played each other during the Midwest Region semifinals Wednesday, Aug. 6, where North Dakota walked away with the win 5-4. South Dakota then went on to face Nebraska in the losers’ bracket to determine which of them would join North Dakota in the championship game.

South Dakota defeated Nebraska 3-1 in their game on Thursday, Aug. 7 to qualify for the championship. North Dakota was the only undefeated team in the tournament heading to the championship game.

South Dakota scored their first five runs of the game in the second inning. Two runs scored on two different doubles, and three runs scored off of one error by left fielder Caleb Mikkelsen to make the score 0-5 for South Dakota at the top of the second.

South Dakota’s sixth and final run of the game came off of a double by Maxen Snoozy in the top of the third inning to score Camden Tycz. The game ended in the bottom of the sixth with Rylan Ericksn striking out swinging.

South Dakota has 28 total at bats with eight hits and one walk. Their lone pitcher for the game, Murphy Seefeldt, faced 20 batters and earned six strikeouts. North Dakota ended the game with just two hits and two walks. Their three pitchers had a combined total of four strikeouts.

With South Dakota’s victory in the regional championship Friday, Aug. 8, they have qualified for the Little League World Series bracket. Their first game will be against the Mid-Atlantic Region Champion, Pennsylvania on Thursday, Aug. 14.
